Although I realize how contrived it is, I’m still a fan of baroque ornamentation and piling on lots of it. I like how this poster has all that going on, but offsets it with ugliness.

This tumblr is a safe, design-geek-friendly place so I feel comfortable saying that I love package design and I will go one step further and admit that when I go to a big beer and/or wine store I get really excited to go around and look at all the labels. I have a feeling that many of you do the same thing.
When I visited Belgium a little over a year ago I was so psyched to LOOK AT so much high-end beer. I was disappointed that most of these amazing beers that have been crafted by monks for hundreds and hundreds of years all had the same, basic, traditional monk-like beer calligraphy on the labels and not much more.
All of this is a round-about way of saying that I like the Shiner logo because it uses that pointy, middle ages type but it ALSO is original and interesting and way cool.

Just as I was getting ready to post this, my friend IMed me to say this:
“what are my favorite things you ask??
that would be glee, kristin chen, roller skating and the boss and oh! tonight they will all be together!”And I know just how you feel friend! Because three of my favorite things are Ornamentation, symmetry, and lots-of-crazy-shit-going-on.Now I realize these things can seem stale and trite and over-used, but I feel like the above design pushes it just enough to make it look a little bit different and new. Oh, and who exactly is the designer in question? I’m glad you asked. For they call themselves

This is, without a doubt, the coolest thing you, or I, or anybody has or will see for a long long time.

Somebody combined taxidermy and high art and cake. Can you even believe that?

first of all, i want to point out that this poster looks like an illustration of my most-used tumblr tags. which is an idea that i will now use, because that would look pretty cool.

I’m digging the exuberance - which designers know is an effect that is actually achieved by sitting down very very seriously and thinking very carefully for a long time - and also the use of glyphs as decorative elements
